Matias Homar, visiting assistant professor of music in Alfred University’s Performing Arts Division, presented a workshop at the 2024 a2ru Conference, held Nov. 14-16 at Rochester Institute of Technology.

a2ru is a partnership of colleges and universities committed to transforming higher education to ensure the greatest possible institutional support for arts-integrative research, curricula, programs and creative practice between the arts, sciences, and other disciplines.

At the conference, “Generate | Integrate: Technology, the Arts and Design,” Homar presented a workshop on Nov. 14, titled Where Sound Meets Sight: Interactive Music Devices for Immersive Learning.”

The workshop explored the use of affordable technology to foster creativity, inclusivity, and collaboration. Participants and the facilitator worked together to create tools that empower shared learning and bridge sensory differences, including visually reactive images designed with the deaf community in mind. The event sparked meaningful discussions on accessibility and diversity in the arts, with valuable feedback shaping the project's future development. Ongoing research will engage the deaf community and visual artists to create impactful, inclusive tools that enhance creative expression for all.
